How the Game Works

The game is played in 10 rounds. One player serves as the Reader. Here's how each round plays out:

Step 1 The Opening Letter

The Reader reads The Cipher's Opening Letter aloud to the group. He introduces the puzzle, sets the stakes, and builds the anticipation before a single puzzle sheet is handed out.

Step 2 Solve the Puzzle

Every player receives their own puzzle sheet and the timer starts. Players solve individually. No sharing answers, no shortcuts. You have minutes to figure it out.

Step 3 The Answer Letter

When time is up, the Reader reads The Cipher's Answer Letter aloud. He reveals the solution, walks through the logic, and shares his opinions about how your group performed. Strong opinions!

Points are recorded and the group moves to the next puzzle. The player or team with the most points after all 10 rounds wins.
